Bikkelheim Kirche
I have been trawling EBay off and on recently for a suitable church for my fictional town of Bikkelheim, at last one appeared that was just the style I have been on the look out for. It was not in the best state of repair but at £9 inclusive of postage at the asking price with one bid I would have been a fool not to go for it and I am pleased to say I got it.
It came while I was away in Devon so on my return I duly set too and deconstructed it, making good missing or damaged parts and glazing the stainless glass inserts, laminating. I could not understand why one of the clock faces was showing a different time, on inspection it transpired that the twelve was glued on at the three position! It looked a little too toytown for my liking anyway so I ripped them off and added new ones printed off via the web, I also downloaded a couple of murals for the outside wall.
Here it is below with the other completed buildings to date together with the last two transports Dave kindly gave me, finally repainted.
Before we went away Dave asked if I could make some marsh/swamp/boggy ground pieces to drop on the table, while I was on I made a couple for myself.
While I was having a coffee break the weekend I thought I would tot up what I done hobby wise for the first six months and was surprised how much I had completed, not much in the scheme of things but I was convinced I had not done even that much.
137 figures, 5 buildings, 3 guns, 7 vehicles and 1 plane together with repaints on the three transports off Dave and a couple of my own tanks.
Yesterday I played an AWI game via Zoom hosted by Matt using Rebels and Patriots and today over at GHQ an ECW game using Dave's own rules, A Crowning Mercy. I am of course far to modest to say how I faired in both games. Do look out for reports from my genial hosts at Tales from GHQ and Wargames in the Dungeon in due course, links will appear in the sidebar when posted.
That's all for now folks, off to finish the delightful British and German mortar teams recently released by Empress Miniatures

It's That Little Souvenir Of A Terrible Year
I thought I might record what I managed on the hobby front in the year of Covid. I managed to make it to what was possibly the last shows of 2020 in the UK, namely WMMS and Hammerhead, I can't remember how many games Dave and myself managed between lockdown and tiers, Matt Crump kindly arranged three games via Zoom and I played a few solo games along way.
Figure wise I painted 297 figures, I also assembled and painted 14 1/72nd AFVs and a Russian PE2 bomber.
Meanwhile on the terrain front I made an hermitage with outbuilding from Charlie Foxtrot and Warbases respectively for my Spanish Civil Wars collections and re-painted an EBay purchase of a railway station for my fictional town of Rahnstadt, other terrain items included barb wire sections and fences for my 20mm WWII collection and three Pegasus Models Russian izbas. For the 28mm collections I also painted a culvert and fences from Sabotag3d and a Warlord bunker kindly given to me by Norm.
A little montage from the year.

Looking Back, Going Forward
Figures and vehicles -
Spanish Civil War - 17 figures, 2 field guns with 8 crew and an armoured car
First Carlist War - 12 figures
Third Century Rome - 34 figures
Post Roman Britain - 50 figures
Italian Wars - 4 figures
World War Two - 81 figures, 1 anti-tank gun and three crew, 2 tanks and 3 trucks
Terrain -
Bunker and four trench sections in 28mm, field position and four trenches in 20mm
Six three inch sections of vines
Two 6 x 6 inch minefields
10 barbed wire sections
A water tower, Russian hut, well and loo and oil tank in 20mm
Two 2 foot sections of train track, also re-painted some old track sections
A Charlie Foxtrot Dormer house with wood store and a Warbases greenhouse
A Charlie Foxtrot barn
An Italeri church
There may well be other figures and terrain bits I did not take note of as well, quite a productive year I thought, I am surprised that I managed so much.
Going forward I intend to give the First Carlist War a boost during January and February, await some new releases off Empress to progress the NWE World War Two project in the meantime I will add to the Italian front, I also have three 20mm Panthers built and primed and a German railway station for the Eastern Front to do at some point. I must also complete the Post Roman Britain expansion, I have 12 Saxons to do and 8 Briton foot and cavalry, I think the Third Century will go to the back for a while as I intend to try and keep up with the early Byzantine releases from Aventine. I have no immediate plans for the Spanish Civil War though I do have figures in stock should I choose otherwise. I also have several builds for Spain to do also.
As if the above is not enough to be going on with, I decided over Christmas and the New Year that I wanted to add another horse and musket period for games here at OHQ, Dave has this period pretty much covered so it was difficult not to duplicate. A couple of years ago I nearly revisited the War Of the Spanish Succession but felt it was to much like the Seven Years War and not suitable for my restricted table size, I did think about it again but common sense sort of prevailed and I looked at the Great Northern War, although there are cracking figures available I could not see them or the period holding my interest. I think I am an Ancient and 19th/20th century guy at heart.
Then the news that Alan Perry was doing a War of the Triple Alliance range broke, my love for the esoteric was reignited, here we go!

To Be Continued?
Needless say we are all in shock at the suddeness of it all, with Christmas over we all reflect on the past year and the new one don't we.
I am not getting any younger myself and wonder if I should spend the time I spend blogging on painting instead, it seems to take longer each time, my IPad and Blogger just don't communicate a lot of the time, the Kindle is next to useless these days as Silk never seems to get supported anymore and I find uploading pictures is a chore a lot of the time in either device.
I shall take this month out and consider it, anyway on a more cheerful note I trust you all had a splendid Christmas and wish you all a happy and prosperous New year.
