Mixed Bag

These are figures that I have completed the rump end of July and the beginning of this month. First up is the first four figures from the latest Empress Miniatures Spanish Civil War release.

Next up is another batch of Soviet partisans, again Britannia Miniatures from Grubby Tanks.
To finish off some Italian Wars additions, Dave kindly gave me this Wargames Illustrated Giants in Miniature figure who I have painted up to represent a character my fictional family Baldini family, Principe Fillipo Baldini and his faithful hound Jacamo from Steel Fist Miniatures.
Inspired by receipt of the above and Dave’s current output of Wars of the Roses figures I dug out this Perry Miniatures cannon and crew.

Back in the Italian wars vein I cleaned up a unit of sword and buckler men which are now under the brush.

C3PO

No folks I have not gone over to the Dark Side with Star Wars Legion. It's a command base for the Italian Wars collection, the commander is a Steel Fist figure painted in natty guilded armour. I did contemplate giving him a banner but I didn't want to overshadow his ostentatious plumage. His drummer is from the Assault Group, base from Warbases as ever.
I am currently working on the next base of Byzantine cavalry, progress as been somewhat curtailed having being struck down with man flu.
Feeling a tad chipper today, so I will see if I can hold the brush steady and continue.

Yet More Drab But......

Fear not some colour is in the horizon, but first here is the final squad for my Volksgrenadier platoon. All figures by AB Miniatures.
The LMG team.
The rifle team.
Finally another propaganda film crew painted up for mid/late war recordings of hoped for victories.
Now a glimpse of the incoming colour, inspired by our recent game(s) more figures for my Florentines.
Until next time......

Early Byzantine Psiloi

In Hail Caesar terms a small unit of Psiloi, Aventine Miniatures figures with the officers shield a LBMS transfer.
The Morecambe and Wise shot🙂
I was reminded by Dave's post that I had this fella from Wargames Foundry part finished so I set too and got him finished.
No I didn't paint the scene from Uccello's Battle of San Romano, sourced on the web and resized to fit.
Back to Italy next week to resume the curtailed Italian Wars game.

Progress of Sorts

Here are the photos of the additions to the Medici and Triple Alliance collections I was unable to get Blogger to acknowledge that they existed in Google Photos. I have retaken them as the original ones on closer inspection were a tad out of focus.

First up the mercenary pike unit for the Medici
Next up a Paraguayan mounted officer for the War if the Triple Alliance.
and a mounted Brazilian officer
I am currently working on another Paraguayan battalion and completing the American squad for the late WWII collection in 20mm
No games until month though.

Pikes Progress

Many, many moons ago I started a mercenary pike unit for the Italian Wars project, but you know how it is you have enough units for a game and other projects then come to the fore. Therefore the unit has been languishing with three figures painted and two started. Inspired by George's http://musingswargameslife.blogspot.com/?m=0 work on his Italian Wars project I have set to to finish it off. First two ranks are done, I do the base work as I go along so it is easier to do the painting and tufting that way I find.

The heavy armoured chaps are Steel Fist figures the remainder are from the Assault Group.

No game until next week as Dave is away, until next time.....

How Does Your Garden Grow

I don't normally post work in progress pics but I thought I would with this piece before it gets too busy, I will be collecting a store and shed off Charlie Foxtrot Models at WMMS tomorrow and will add one or both to the pieces to it after completing the compost heap. You may spot in the background the start of my vines for vineyards, I have done these in 75mm strips for versatility, this may spoil the look a little but I can live with that.
Greenhouse and cold frame are from Warbases, the cobbles are Wills.

On the non terrain front I have completed a base of Italian Wars mounted crossbowmen ahrad of the WI photo shoot over at GHQ, check the link on the side bar for more pics taken by Dave during the session.
This brings my total of bases up to ten now.

Here at OHQ on Monday we will be returning to the Eastern Front for a game of Bolt Action.

Well Jim You Did.....

Mention chickens, another little piece to make the table top look inhabited. The well is from Coriatani, the chickens (painted as Spanish white face) from Hovels, the barrel and bucket from the bits box while the rope is made from twisted fuse wire, base from Warbases.
Suitably inspired by another namesake, jimbibblyblog I have got around to adding sails to the windmill, James used Japanese calligraphy paper for his 15mm creation, I jokingly asked my wife if she had any in her card making stuff, no but I do have some vellum said she, ideal thinner than paper and stronger. Here it is pictured on my latest terrain board, now my river does not have to run across the four foot part all the while, the sails are not has white as the photo suggests.
Yesterday was a full day over at GHQ as I had to drop my wife off for an hospital appointment early AM and drop her back at work around lunchtime, which just happens to be around the corner from GHQ. After a dry brushing session on the excellent buildings Dave has made up we set to with another outing with our Italian Wars collection, trying out our latest modifications to the Neil Thomas rules we use, we have decided a few more tweaks/additions for next time. For a full report of the action pop over to Dave's blog, The Battle of San Philippe
Here are a few taster pics wot I took.

Here at OHQ next week I plan a return to the Russian front using Battlegroup rules, after watching an AAR on UTube, The Acceptable Casualties I was reading the comments, one said that they did not like IgoUgo games so they dice for orders each turn and that result they add the amount of Bolt Action order dice applicable for each sides orders to a bag and draw them out. Its sounds an interesting twist so we will give it a try. Stay tuned.
