Goths March Ever Onward

Dave arrived today to once again command the Gothic hordes has they push the Roman field armies back into the Empire.
Once again the gods appear to have blunted the Roman weapons and the Goths continue their advance further across the Empire.
On the left the first Roman cavalry unit is destroyed, their supports valiantly fight on.
The Roman cataphracts are left out on a limb
The Roman cavalry are pushed back further but do not break, if they are pushed back next time they will be off the table and deemed destroyed.
Over on the other flank the Roman auxiliaries are put to flight.
The Roman centre holds firm but with it's flanks crumbling a withdrawal is ordered.
Another defeat for the Roman field force, it appears the gods have deserted them yet again, but then again it could just be me in command πŸ˜‚

    1. Thank you Norm. One problem with the big bases is I forget that the Lanciarii can go into open order. I could have deployed them in the flank and seen off the pesky Goth archersπŸ™„

  2. The armies are a joy to see and to lead. You are paying the penalty for forsaking the old gods! Alternatively, buy new dice at The Other Partizan?

The Romans will eventually get their luck back… sometime in the middle of the 3rd century 😁.

    All the best. Aly

  7. 5th century Goths for using with Dux Brit rules [Duchy of Soissons variant] against my Romans may be next. Your report and fabulous pictures are another nudge in that direction. Thanks

    1. Indeed it was George, the Romans are on the back foot just lately, but what can you do when you roll nine dice and get two hits, roll six dice and get none with a 50/50 chance of a hit?

  11. Lovely figures, beautifully painted - but am I being stupid? Are you 'the' Phil Robinson? I have some gorgeous vintage Hinchliffe ECW figures reportedly painted by him.

  12. Thank you Rob. I am " the"" Phil Robinson Duncan christened the Birmingham One. I think your figures may have been painted by "the" Hull One, Duncan used to differentiate us.
