Ready To Roll

Into the Reich, two more vehicles from the Rapid Fire Ready to Roll range.
For 1945 games and in preparation for the latest Battlegroup supplement.
First up a Sherman dozer.
Second a M8 armoured car with an AB Figures commander.
I also have a M36 tank destroyer ready for weathering, await delivery of washes from Flory Models, ordered last night and posted today!

Keep your eyes peeled for a report of the French and Indian Wars game played today on Dave's blog, Tales From GHQ.

A Rare Victory

Another game here in OHQ, Dave came over for a Spanish Civil War outing using Bolt Action rules. As is customary Dave took command of the Republican force consisting of six anarchist militia units with the support of a unit of Assault Guards.

The Rebel force consisted of five units of Carlist Requettes who would be coming to aid the rebel Guardia holding the village against the oncoming Anarchist Militia column.

The Guardia prepare to stem the Republican advance on the left.

The Anarchist pour fire into the Guardia with little effect.

On the right the Anarchists exchange fire with the Requettes.

With all the cover sixes and sixes followed by six are the order of the day, today the dice gods favoured yours truly, pinning the Anarchist horde across the front.

The Anarchists are unable to shift the tenacious Guardia.

Meanwhile a unit of Requettes move round to cut off any flanking move. They held off any attempt at great cost.

Seeing an opportunity to turn the battle the strongest remaining Anarchist unit attempts to advance, but Dave managed to get two of the sixes that had been alluding him most of the game. This resulted in the unit panicking and running to the rear, this ended any threat to the Requettes who in the meantime had flanked the Anarchists on the right.

A rare win for the Rebels and me for that matter.

Until next time......

Let It Snow

What do you do when it's 30 + outside, why paint a snowy back board for when you are using the winter mat.
Geek Villain winter tracks fleece mat with my board in the distance.

Something Old Something New

Continuing to aim to paint something out of my 20mm WWII bits and bobs over the year I dug out three of the AB Figures Soviet tank riders I have had for a considerable time and got them painted. They are glued to clear plastic to add and remove from the tank as required.
Below in situ on a Fabri die-cast T34/85 I re-painted a while ago.
Now the new, additions to the late WWII US Battlegroup, a sniper team and a FO team both from Simons Soldiers available in the UK from Wargaming Miniatures.
In the background you can see the new back board I have painted, not as good as the one Matt painted for our display games back in the day, but being on foam board a lot lighter for older sky holders like us.
Now something old but new, a while a go Matt sent his surplus 20mm WWII figures for me to make use of. A German motorcycle and crew, I have painted this up in anticipation of my "nothing for me in 23"project 😂
Can you guess what the not new project will be.

Until next time, TTFN and KBO

Conflict Returns To OHQ

After a short hiatus due to holidays and COVID games have returned at OHQ.
Dave popped over today for a squad level game using Battlegroup rules using my 28mm collection of late war British and Germans.

First blood to the German defenders.

The German MG42 opens fire before becoming pinned for most of the engagement.

Steiner's foot patrol hold off the British attack, which was somewhat un-coordinated, something to do with lack of orders.

The British head out for cover of the copse and use it as a base to pin that German flank.

Accurate German mortar fire slows the British advance on the other flank.

The British advance gathers momentum.

German reinforcements arrive.

They score an immediate hit on the probing British M5.

The platoon CO ponders his next move.

But no need the earlier in turn three British chit pull of the Endkampf chit, (an odd coincidence because Dave had only enquired in the previous turn if there were any chits that would adversely effect the Germans in the bag) which a D6 roll compelled the Germans to take two chits, this took the German Battle Rating down a third coupled with the loss of Steiner's patrol in turn seven took them over their total.

Despite reinforcement and holding the British on the town outskirts the Germans pull back conceding the village to the British.

I am currently making my battalions for the Triple Alliance project up to eighteen figures and painting up a M7 "Priest" and M16 Quad AA halftrack up for the 20mm American project.

Until next time................
