Reports of an astonishing Republican victory in the area of Rawnsla is just coming in, both sides of the conflict converged on an important railway centre.
The Republican attack was spearheaded by local militiamen, although inexperienced they hemmed in the advancing Nationalist militia until the International Brigade could come up and support them.
A fierce encounter ensued, but the Republican forces advance on a broad front brought more firepower to bear and a heroic assault by a section of fanatical militia tore a gap in the Nationalist centre again stopping the Nationalist attempt to broaden their front.
The Nationalist forces finally lost heart and quit the field.
